Event was initially planed to last around an hour, since we wanted to pass the message as simple as possible.
After a welcome note, Ivan Jelic gave a short introduction to DFD. Visitors were informed about the initiative main goals and objectives, variety of DFD teams and countries they are from, companies, organizations and individuals involved.
Marko Milenovic gave a speech about Open Standards in general, presenting this issue to the visitors in very simple but efficient language. Listeners had a very good chance to understand Open Stanards, as an introduction to the next subject.
Goran Rakic, FSN active supporter and volunteer, firstly explained Open Document Format itself and importance of freedom and openness in this filed. He used very interesting examples like British nuclear program and problems that took place in this case. Goran used his programming knowledge to touch technical aspects of ODF too.
Second part of Goran's speech was dedicated to OpenOffice.org localization project, founded by Serbian Ministry for telecommunications and information society. Importance of such program suite localization in sense of document freedom is very big at the moment in Serbia. Document Freedom Day also received significant attention from this project too. Goran showed the potential and usability of OpenOffice.org with user interface translated in Serbian.
Ivan Recevic from Gaia presented the aspects of business use of Open Standards and OpenOffice.org which are being used in this company every day business routine. Ivan presented one day in his company with all tasks they do using free and open technologies.
The last part was dedicated for communication with an audience, and explaining common misunderstandings. Stickers and leaflets were shared with the visitors, who had a chance to take a picture with a DFD flags.
"I am very happy with the speeches the visitors had a chance to hear today", says Ivan Jelic, DFD coordinator and the host of Belgrade DFD event. "We passed the message of document freedom and I use this chance to thank all the visitors and supporters of Document Freedom Day".
Goran Rakic: "It was a great pleasure for me to be a part of DFD today, talking about why Open Document Format is important, its advantages and why does it matter."
