2008/Spain/Zaragoza
From Document Freedom Day
Document Freedom Day (Promoted as "Día para la libertad de documentos" in Spanish) was a success in Zaragoza. It was coordinated by OSLUZ (Oficina de Software Libre de la Universidad de Zaragoza).
We received the starter pack on time, but unfortunately, we could not celebrate it on 26th because of two reasons: that week was holidays in Spain (Easter) and the CDs we have ordered for that day were delayed.
Activities
Despite the delay, we did several activities on the following days:
- We send several messages to all the professors, employees and students in our community creating awarness on this topic
- We set up an information point at the School of Engineering. We gave out leaflets (the ones we were sent and the ones translated by us), stikers and free CDs with OpenOffice.org and other standard-supporting free software.
- We repeated the previous activity at the main gate of our University
- We have prepared a lecture for the 22nd about the importance of open standards in documents
- There are many prepared OpenOffice.org courses for proffesors, employees and students
Further
The promotion of open standards will not end here, as our University has an approved comittment to ODF, PDF and free software, and there exists a plan to migrate from MS Office to OpenOffice.org.
