Ilug-CalInfo: Report on DF-Day'2009 Activities
Document Freedom Day was celebrated on the 25th of March'2009 by the Kolkata team 'Ilug-CalInfo' at DPS India.
Our programme consisted of
Hackfest Sessions
* Session-1: Text and Wiki to Custom Formats with txt2tags * Session-2: Open Office Extensions (the easier parts) * Open Sessions
As all of those present did not know enough about txt2tags, A. Mani explained all basic and developmental aspects of the tool.
The topics covered were:
* Introduction to txt2tags * Txt2tags Markup * Extending Txt2tags: Adding New Targets * Demos, Types of Wiki Markup * Quality of Output * Extension Plans
A project on extending the capabilities of Txt2tags will be put into action soon by some of the interested members.
The topics for the next sessions were:
* ODF vs OOXML Issues * Postgresql to OOcalc Exporter * Discussion: PDF vs DJVU
Subhasish Ghatak spoke about the implementation of the Postgresql to OOCalc Exporter and more.
In all about twenty+ geeks participated in the event. We dropped the plans on a Fedora install fest for different reasons including slow mirror speeds and interest of participants. The proposed kick start files were nevertheless available for use by other DF-teams in the Fedora page.
For the entire event, the Kolkata team would like to thank Document Freedom.Org, DPS India, all speakers, participants and Ilug-CalInfo.
