Can't read your document poster

[Can't read your document poster]

The idea here is that people write something on a poster, e.g. "I cannot read your documents". Then take a picture of them with the sign in front of a public institution and publish the picture.

Timeline:
  • 2 weeks before - do some research about public administrations in your city.
  • 1 weeks before - prepare your poster
  • few days before - take the picture
  • 28th of March - publish the picture using the tag #dfd

Promote open formats in public library

Librarians should be easy to convince about the usefulness of Open Standards. Have leaflets in the library or be there and inform visitor. E.g. use a old book and ask them if they would like to read this book in an electronic format, in 10 years.

Timeline:
  • 2 weeks before - find a public library, talk with them about the topic and ask them if you can have leaflets there and talk with visitors
  • 1 week before - print leaflets and find friends to help you
  • 28th of March - use your creativity and inspiration to explain people why open document formats are important

Give an award

If there is a organisation or company which you think is a good example in the field of open standards you can recognize their effort and support their activities by giving them an award.

Materials:
  • T-Shirts
  • Cake
  • Certificate
Timeline:
  • few weeks before - contact the awarded organisation or company
  • 2 weeks before - order t-shirts for your group
  • 1 weeks before - write a press release (example)
  • some days before - print out the certificate
  • a day before - organise a big cake
  • 28th of March - go there and give them them all the stuff
  • 28th of March - make some cool pictures

Create street art

There are endless ways how your street art could promote open standards. Think for a while about daily examples, funny or shocking ones, which could be portrayed on the street, and than take an action. It does not require a lot, just your imagination. Afterward, take picture of what you just have created and send it to us, so we can promote your work around the world. And who knows, you might inspire other artists and your work will became viral.

Street art could take a form of anything interesting and legal, such as installation of unexpected items, paintings of moss graffiti slogans ´I can´t read your documents´ before public administration building or spreading woolen graffiti.

  • several weeks before - think of the art work
  • 1 weeks before - prepare your street art
  • few days before - install or create your street art and take a picture of it

Help us create posters

Help us produce some catchy posters that depict negative effects that use of closed standards have on peoples daily lives. It could be a picture of grandmother crying because she can not read her dairy written in .docx or anything you can imagine. The picture shall be accompanied with some appropriate slogan, such as ´Would you be able to read yours?´, and brief smaller text, which explains importance of the open standards.

Change your email signature

Ask people to change their e-mail signature for DFD.

Give a presentation

Give a presentation at a local Free Software user group about Open Standards.

  • 2 weeks before - start promotion that you will give a presentation
